I received my XO laptop and have had a chance to take for a spin. It didn’t arive with Sugar 8.20 which is the latest version, but yesterday I upgraded it and it was easy. Good directions on the wiki.
Today I installed Opera and it’s working fine, although it is not an activity so it has to be started from the Terminal. more to follow…

Last year I was thinking about doing it, but at the end our donations for the end of the year were made to other organizations. This year when I found out that OLPC is repeating it’s “Give One Get One” program I didn’t hesitate, because every now and then during the past 11 months I’ve wished I had a XO laptop. I am tracking its delivery every day…

I would like to see this in action - researchers at IBM have developed an application that can animate Sign Language. It builds on speech recognition, but instead of outputting written words it has an avatar that “knows” sign language. Cool. via BBC
